Creative Identity

I am a fifth-generation Californian and grew up in Southern California where the multi-cultural diversity and eclectic sensibilities of the area influenced my development as a writer, photographer, and artist. Educated in the Humanities, I would sum up my creative identity as a historian by schooling, an observer of the natural realm by inclination, and a voyager through the world of spirit by compulsion. I explore the convergence of history, place, and culture in my creative works, often infusing my pieces with a spirit of otherworldliness. My short stories, photographs, and digital art appear regularly at the Soul Food Cafe website. I currently reside atop an ancient sand dune near Los Angeles.

My Specialty:

Although I enjoy writing and photography, I particularly enjoy creating art using Adobe Phototshop, Illustrator and Imageready. My particular specialty is taking my photographs and using them as a basis to make digital mandala. In a way, I am taking one reality and recasting it as another reality. For example, below are photographs taken at a local farmers market. From excerpts of those photos, I used Illustrator and then Photoshop to create the mandala. I am not aware of any other artist who combines Illustrator and Photoshop in this manner to create mandalas.
