I haven’t posted much in the last month because I’ve been busy writing for the SS Vulcania. Let me explain: I belong to a virtual writers’ group through the Soul Food Cafe. Our group has just left on a virtual ocean voyage for the next year, where we will be writing around a series of prompts provided by our group leader, Heather Blakey. I ended up writing a little fantasy about sea creatures and giant pearls. I invented a character called Elle-Jay Jones. Elle-Jay is an out of work archaeologist who finds herself on the Vulcania with a mystery to solve. It’s pretty weird but if you feel inclined to take a look, click on the link below, scroll to the bottom of the page, and then start reading the blog posts in reverse order. Thanks.

Aztec Statue
Art historians do not know the reason why this fellow’s chest has been laid open. It makes one wonder how our own creative works will be interpreted (or perhaps not even understood) if they happen to survive a thousand years and end up under the scrutiny of some future group of scholars.

This picture is from Wikipedia and shows the normal appearance of an Emperor Scorpion.

This is a photo that I took of two sleeping Emperor Scorpions being exposed to ultraviolet light. Pretty awesome:

Although I don’t particularly like insects, spiders, and other creepies, I do love the mysteries of nature. Why in the world would a scorpion glow neon-blue under UV light? What is the purpose? Maybe there is none.
It is something to ponder.
